Karnal, June 4
With the arrest of two persons, the Karnal police have solved the robbery of more than Rs 1 crore from the house of automobile dealer Rahul Rao in Sector 9 on May 21.
The police have recovered ornaments of diamond, gold and silver worth Rs 50 lakh, Rs 6 lakh cash, car and mobile phones from their possession. Country made pistol and three live cartridges were seized from them. The police have taken the duo — Sarwan and Prempal — on six-day remand as the police are yet to recover half of the robbed valuables. Two accused — Surinder Manjhi and Ranjeet — are still at large.
On May 21, three miscreants in connivance with the servant of the house took away cash and jewellery worth more than Rs 1 crore after taking Jyoti Rao, daughter-in-law of Rahul Rao, her kids and maid hostage at knifepoint.
The servant had been hired through a Delhi-based agency just 3-4 days prior to the incident.
“Police investigation revealed that the servant, who introduced himself as Pawan, got the job on a fake Aadhaar card. His actual name is Surinder Manjhi, a native of Madhubani in Bihar. The incident exposed the negligence on the part of the agency. The Karnal police will take the help of the Delhi Police to take action against the agency which didn’t verify the documents of this person before assigning him the job,” said Surinder Singh Bhoria, Superintendent of Police. “I request residents to verify the particulars of their servants, tenants and employees,” he added.
The SP said that the arrested persons have been identified as Sarwan and Prempal, permanent residents of Bihar who are now residing in Noida. Surinder Manjhi and Ranjeet, a resident of Madhubani in Bihar, are still at large. On a tip-off, members of CIA-1 incharge Deepender Rana’s team arrested the duo with a looted car from the Haryana-UP border last night, the SP said.
He said Surinder had met Sarwan in Tihar jail and they formed this gang. Sarwan came out from jail last year and Surinder in February. The SP said that CCTV cameras installed inside the house and at the city’s chowks and cyber experts have played a vital role in cracking the case.
