Chandigarh, February 26

As the UT Administration has tightened its noose around unauthorised paying guest (PG) accommodations, 12 more such premises shut their operations in the city today.

Three girls had died after a fire broke out at their PG accommodation in Sector 32 here on February 22. The tragic incident forced the UT Administration to act against illegal PGs. Deputy Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar had directed all three SDMs to constitute teams to identify and inspect unregistered PGs.

With the inspections under way, the operators of 12 more illegal PG accommodations in the city themselves closed their business today, said UT Adviser Manoj Parida. So far, 18 PG accommodations have been closed down.

During the inspections, 47 more illegal PG accommodations were found in the city and notices were issued to them. Nearly 40 notices were issued against such accommodations yesterday.

Meanwhile, the UT Estate Office today received 29 complaints against illegal PGs on its helpline. As many as 12 complaints were received from the South subdivision, seven from the Central subdivision and 10 from the East subdivision. Yesterday, the Estate Office had got 17 complaints on its helpline number.

Meanwhile, a help desk to facilitate speedy registration of PGs was set up at the reception centre of the Estate Office. The applicants can apply for the registration by filling Form A available at the counter from 9 am to 5 pm. So far, three applications have been received at the desk.

The DC had yesterday directed the Assistant Estate Officer (AEO) to ensure smooth facilitation for registration of PG accommodations, which fulfil the required norms.
