A woman, identified as Ritu of Guru Ram Das Nagar, was injured when a BRTS bus hit her scooter near Taylor road on Saturday morning. She was taking a turn while the BRTS bus was going towards Customs Chowk when the incident took place.

Eyewitnesses said the driver of the bus, besides driving rashly, jumped the traffic signal that led to the incident. Onlookers rushed her to a hospital from where she was discharged after treatment.

Meanwhile, passersby didn’t allow the bus driver to go ahead and called the police. Though the police took him into custody, he was released as both the parties reached a compromise. The police said the victim and her family didn’t want to lodge a case against the driver.

Nitin Arora, a resident of Friends Colony who was at the mishap site, said the bus dragged the victim to some distance before taking a halt. Fortunately, the victim fell on the other side of the road, otherwise it could have been a fatal mishap, he added.

Another eyewitness, Rajiv Bawa, who runs a shop at the court road, said he was passing through the road at that time. “It was the fault of the BRTS driver as he jumped the red light. The woman was taking a turn after green signal,” he said.

Another passerby said that such a negligence by the drivers of heavily vehicles shouldn’t be ignored.
