Gang of robbers busted, 5 held

Five members of a gang of highway robbers in the Jandiala Guru police custody on Sunday.

The Jandiala police have busted a gang of highway robbers and seized five mobile phones, a motorcycle, air gun and sickle from their possession. The accused have been identified as Arshdeep Singh, Karandeep Singh, both residents of Tajpur village, Raman Kumar of Daburji, Rahul Randhawa of Rajapur village in Kapurthala, and Ajay Kumar of Saiflabad of Kapurthala.

Jandiala Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhwinderpal Singh said they got a tip-off that the accused used to rob commuters. The accused were present near a cremation ground on Gunowal road and planning to commit robbery, he said. The Deputy Superintendent of Police said the accused were nabbed with weapons and mobile phones. He said the accused were produced before the court, which sent them on the police remand. Many cases of robberies were likely to be solved, he said.
