AMRITSAR: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has announced to organise National Lok Adalat on July 14 to provide convenient and speedy justice to litigants.

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has announced to organise National Lok Adalat on July 14 to provide convenient and speedy justice to litigants.

In a press conference here on Thursday, Sumit Makkar, secretary, DLSA, said compoundable offences under Section 138 of Negotiable Instruments Act, bank recovery cases, MACT, labour disputes, electricity and water bills (excluding non-compoundable), matrimonial, land acquisition, services matters and civil matters would be heard by the Lok Adalat.

Sumit Makkar said apart from benches at district courts, Lok Adalat would also be held at sub-divisional courts in Ajnala and Baba Bakala. He said a total of 10 benches would be constituted including one bench each for industrial tribunal and the MC.

The DLSA secretary said persons having annual income less than Rs 3 lakh, women and undertrials were entitled for free legal aid. He said for all cases settled during Lok Adalat, the court fee deposited by the litigants would be refunded in entirety. As per the schedule announced by National Legal Services Authority, Lok Adalats would also be organised on September 8 and December 8, he added.
