Man commits suicide, live-in partner booked

AMRITSAR: A man, identified as Roop Singh (35), committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house in Sandhu Colony, falling under the Sadar police station, here on Wednesday.

A man, identified as Roop Singh (35), committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house in Sandhu Colony, falling under the Sadar police station, here on Wednesday.

He was perturbed over the alleged illicit relationship of his live-in partner with whom he had been residing for past 10 years. The police have booked the woman on the complaint of deceased’s father Balbir Singh.

The accused has been identified as Pooja, who has been booked under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC by the Sadar police. No arrest has been made till now.

Complainant Balbir Singh informed the police that his son had been living with the woman for the past 10 years, but they did not marry. The accused was separated from her husband. He said that around seven years ago his son bought a house in Sandhu Colony where both resided.

He said that Roop Singh informed him a few days ago that Pooja often quarrelled with him as she had “illicit relations” with another person. “On Tuesday late evening, my relative Joginder Singh phoned me to inform that Roop had ended his,” he added.

ASI Gurjit Singh, investigating officer, said the woman had been booked and raids were on to arrest her.

The case

Roop Singh (35) had been residing with his live-in partner for the last 10 years in Sandhu Colony. His father said he was perturbed over the "illicit" relationship of the woman with someone else. The relationship triggered frequent quarrels between them.
