Sumit Nayyar tops Amritsar with 98%

Class X students of the border district have notched the highest pass percentage in the state declared by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) today. The district secured 86.18 pass percentage in the state.

Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat has congratulated the students and their parents over the feat. He informed that 27,407 of the 31,802 cleared the examination.

Sumit Nayyar of Ajit Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School bagged first position in the district with 98 per cent marks. He has been a steadfast top performer in studies right from primary classes.

Talking to the Amritsar Tribune, Sumit said, “Physics is my favourite subject as I am able to connect its contents easily with day-to-day life and natural objects around us.”

He wishes to study astronomical engineering from an IIT after senior secondary. Later, he has plans to work with the ISRO to carry out intensive research. For this, he has already joined extra classes so as to prepare for admission in an IIT.

A resident of Ram Nagar locality in Sultanwind area, which is situated near his school, Sumit said his father Kiran Kumar Nayyar is a businessman; mother Neelam a house wife and younger sister Smriti is studying in Class VI in the same school. Like Sumit, Smriti is also good in academics.”

Though his mother is only senior secondary qualified, she made it a point to teach him at home up to Class X. He gained education under her strict observation up to Class V and after that he started self study.

He is a member of district badminton team and last year took part in state championship held at Jalandhar. He is also a keen painter and has won many awards at state-level competitions.

Two students of DAV Senior Secondary School, Hathi Gate, were placed in the state merit list. Sahil Chopra (97.38 per cent) bagged second position in the district and 14th rank in the state. Sanchit Bhalla (96.15 per cent) bagged sixth position in the district and 22nd rank in the state.

School Principal Ajay Beri congratulated both the students and their parents on this glorious success.

JP Shoor, Director, PS-1 and Aided Schools, DAV CMC, New Delhi, congratulated the faculty and the students over their success.

Nancy of Madhav Vidya Niketan School was third in the district and 18th

in Punjab as she scored 96.77 per cent. School Principal Shelly Sharma and manger Keshav Syal congratulated her for her excellent performance.

Meanwhile, students of Baba Gurmukh Singh Baba Uttam Singh Senior Secondary School Khadur Sahib again showcased excellent performance. Its three girl students secured merit positions and featured among the top 15 ranks in the state.

These students are Ravneet Kaur (97.85 per cent, 11th rank), Perneet Kaur (97.69 per cent, 12th rank) and Parminder Kaur (97.23 per cent, 15th rank).

In Tarn Taran district, as many as four students have got place in the merit list and first three ones have been bagged by these students of Khadur Sahib School which is managed by noted environmentalist Baba Sewa Singh Kar Sewa Wale.

Baba Sewa Singh congratulated the meritorious students and gave blessings.

The school also prepares its students for competitive exams, including NDA, IIT/JEE (Main and Advance), PMT, AIIMS, AIEEE and recently six of them cleared the JEE (main) exam at Nishan-e-Sikhi building. Scholarships worth lakhs is also conferred on brilliant students of the school every year.

Ravneet Kaur, who secured 11th rank on merit list, said becoming professor was her sole aim and she likes English literature.

“I want to teach needy children who are the future of our society. Teaching is a sacred profession through which anybody could impart moral values among youth,” she said.

She also thanked Baba Sewa Singh for providing high class educational facilities to the youth, especially those from the rural areas.
