1,069 postal votes rejected

AMRITSAR: Out of 2,805 postal votes in the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency, election officials rejected 1,069 ballots due to several reasons.

Amritsar, May 23

Out of 2,805 postal votes in the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency, election officials rejected 1,069 ballots due to several reasons. Similarly, in the previous Lok Sabha polls in 2014, maximum of the postal votes were rejected. During 2009 parliamentary polls, out of 71 postal votes, 47 met the same fate. Officials blame the “ignorance” of voters, who failed to fill the documents properly which is a major reason behind rejection. Sometimes birth date and signatures fail to match. Some of the postal voters fail to mark their candidates. — TNS
