Cabinet Minister Om Parkash Soni held a meeting with the administrative officials regarding first phase of the Smart City Project today. He asked the officials to accelerate work and not to compromise with quality.

Komal Mittal, officiating MC Commissioner-cum-CEO Smart City; Bal Krishan, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited; Rajiv Sekhri, Nodal Officer Smart City; Mahesh Khanna, councillor; and Vikas Soni, councillor; among other participated in the meeting.

The Smart City officials showed a visual presentation of various projects to be developed. Soni said work under the Smart City project should be foolproof and quality should not be compromised at any level.

While addressing the mediaperson, Soni said the government would spend Rs 35.75 crore on LED street lights, Rs 110.2 crore on solar project, 6.17 crore on smart classrooms, Rs 3.7 crore on beautification of parks and Rs 2.52 crore on installing wi-fi in the city.

Soni urged the residents to keep the clean and cooperate with the government for implementation of various projects.

Mittal said several projects were at the tendering process, while work has commenced on some.

“We have floated tenders of Rs 7.35 crore for beautification of land under flyovers, Rs 4.97 crore for electric works of flyovers, Rs 137.62 crore for roads, Rs 66.60 crore for sewerage and rain harvesting in the first phase. These projects will start soon. Other works are on detail project report (DPR) stage. The smart city projects will change face of the holy city,” he said.
