Amritsar: Students of Khalsa College Public School (KCPS) won top positions in Sahodaya Inter School Competition held at SL Bhawan School. Sejal Sharma of Class VIII bagged first prize in geometrical shapes competition, Komal of Class X got second position in sketch-making competition and Taranjot Kaur and Mehakdeep Kaur got consolation prizes in rangoli making competition. The competition was dedicated to the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the great mathematician, said Principal of Khalsa College Public School, Dr Sarvjit Kaur Brar.

Dr Brar said various competitions like poster making, essay writing, origami and quiz were held in school earlier this week to develop logical and analytical thinking among students. A movie, based on the life of Ramanujan and his achievements, was also screened for students. She congratulated students and motivated them to do better in life. She added that such activities sharpened the analytical thinking of students.

Cricket tournament

The Second Annual Faculty Cricket Tournament was held at Amritsar College of Engineering and Technology. The teams of Challengers, Warriors, Firey Fighters and CIM-11 participated in the three-match tournament.

The Warriors and CIM-11 played in the final match, which was won by Warriors by 40 runs. Prizes were distributed among players soon after the match by trustee Rajinder Sharma, director finance Ragini Sharma, group director OK Harsh, Principal, Dr VK Banga, registrar Manoj Sharma and Deans.

Tendulkar Trophy

The novel initiative of DAV Public School to blend academic with co–curricular activities under the guidelines of CCE given by the CBSE concluded amidst cheers with the finals of the Tendulkar Trophy – Inter Section Cricket Tournament for class IX, held yesterday at DAV Complex.

This was the second year of the tournament, which was started last year. The aim of the initiative was to develop values of team spirit, fair play, discipline, sportsmanship, co–operation, leadership etc among students.

Much excitement was seen among the students as they competed and performed to the best of their abilities, while keeping the spirit of the game high. The final match was played between IX – I and IX – J in which the latter emerged winners. Some good shots and performances par excellence were witnessed during the matches.

Regional director, Amritsar zone, Dr Neelam Kamra, Principal, BBK DAV College for Women and Manager of the school, Dr KN Kaul, OSD, DAV University, Jalandhar, congratulated the school for taking innovative steps. He said such activities would help in the all-round development of students.—TNS
