Unknown miscreants shot a person working with a finance company on Friday night. The police have said the robbery could be a motive behind the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Singh (32), who hailed from Mansa. The victim used to work at Ashirwad Micro Finance’s Beas branch. Gurpreet was returning home when the incident took place.

Beas police station SHO Mohit Kumar said the victim’s mobiles and other valuables were intact. Therefore, they were looking into other possible theories behind the incident.

Jaspreet Singh, brother of the deceased stated to the police that Gurpreet was working as an area manager at Beas. He said on Friday, around 11 pm Gurpreet was returning home.

Jaspreet said he along with another employee Sitarkhan of the same firm were on another motorcycle.

He added that when Gurpreet reached Guru Nanak Pura locality, two unidentified people in their mid-twenties pushed his brother with an intention to rob him. He said his brother fell down and began to run. The accused chased and shot at him, he said.

Jaspreet said he sounded an alarm and rushed his brother to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar where he breathed his last.

The SHO said due to darkness, CCTV cameras in the area were inconclusive and the accused were yet to be identified. The police have registered a case under Section 302 and 397 of the IPC along with SectionS 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at Beas police station.

In another incident, an LIC adviser Jagdeep Singh Bhinder claimed that two-unidentified robbers looted Rs 1.10 lakh from his possession at Rayya-Baba Bakala link road. He said he was returning home after collecting the installments on Saturday evening when cash was looted from him.
