Baba Uttam Singh’s portrait unveiled

AMRITSAR: Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh unveiled the portrait of late Baba Uttam Singh Kar Sewa Khadur Sahib Wale at Central Sikh Museum in the Golden Temple here on Tuesday.

Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh unveiled the portrait of late Baba Uttam Singh Kar Sewa Khadur Sahib Wale at Central Sikh Museum in the Golden Temple here on Tuesday. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) installed the portrait of Baba Uttam Singh for his contribution in the field of kar sewa, education and service of humanity.

A few days ago, the executive penal of the SGPC had passed a resolution to install the portrait of the former head of kar sewa sect founded by Baba Gurmukh Singh around 100 years ago, to construct buildings of historical Sikh shrines.

A religious ceremony was held in this regard at the museum during which Sri Darbar Sahib’s Hazuri Ragi Bhai Satinderbir Singh recited gurbani kirtan. Addressing the gathering, Giani Gurbachan highlighted the work of Baba Uttam Singh to give a practical shape to the Sikh principles. He also lauded his successor and environmentalist Baba Sewa Singh for making efforts for providing quality education to the rural and underprivileged youth, besides safeguarding eco-system by planting trees in large numbers.
