Bengaluru woman among four targeted by snatchers

AMRITSAR: As many as four persons, including a woman tourist from Bengaluru, have been targeted by snatchers here in the past 24 hours.

As many as four persons, including a woman tourist from Bengaluru, have been targeted by snatchers here in the past 24 hours.

Bengaluru resident Sunita Tak along with her family was in the city to pay obeisance at Golden Temple. She told the police that when she along with her kin reached near Akali Phula Singh Gurdwara, a motorcycle-borne person came from behind and snatched her purse containing three mobile phones, Rs 60,000 and some documents.

Satnam Singh, investigating officer, said a case under Section 379-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been registered. He said CCTV cameras installed at a shop near the spot were switched off. He said it was dark near the crime spot.

In another incident, an unknown youth pulled a woman’s earring, leaving her injured in Mohkampura on Saturday. Victim Paramjit Kaur stated to the police that the youth knocked at her door and asked her about some residential address. She denied having any knowledge about the said residence and was about to shut the door when the accused pulled her gold earring weighing around 6 gm and fled away.

Similarly, a snatcher, identified as Pankaj of Lahori Gate, was arrested while he was fleeing after snatching a purse of a woman, identified as Ravinder Kaur. She said that she along with her mother was going to a private hospital when the accused snatched her purse near the bus stand. She raised the alarm following which onlookers nabbed him. A case was registered with the Division A police station.

Meanwhile, the Jandiala police have booked Bikramjit Singh and Money, both residents of Gunowal village, for allegedly snatching gold jewellery. Rs 5,600 in cash and two mobile phones were seized that they had snatched from Kanwaljit Singh of Thathwal village in Batala. Kanwaljit along with his wife was returning on a bike after paying obeisance at a shrine on Saturday afternoon. They intercepted them near Dharad village canal and snatched gold jewellery, cash and mobiles. Later, they were identified as Bikramjit and Money. The police are searching for them.

No clue in two cases

  • Bengaluru woman along with her family was in the city to pay obeisance to Golden Temple. They were targeted by a biker near Akali Phula Singh Gurdwara who snatched her purse containing, three mobile phones, Rs 60,000 and some documents. 
  • Woman hurt in another case when a youth went inside her house asking for a residential address of someone and snatched her gold earring. She sustained severe injuries. 
  • The police haven't got any clue in the aforesaid cases.
