Amritsar: Rich tributes were paid to Dr BR Ambedkar on his death anniversary at various places in city. Addressing participants at art gallery, MLA Raj Kumar Verka said there was a need to follow the footsteps of the architect of the Constitution. He said Baba Sahib, as he is fondly called, made it possible for followers of all religions to live together under the Constitution. He said a total of 74 countries modeled their constitution according to the Indian Constitution. "All of us must sink our differences to work for the progress of our country." A documentary on the life story of Bab Sahib, prepared by Vijay Vikas Dutt, was also showcased on the occasion. Among others present included Sunil Dutti, MLA North; Jugal Kishore Sharma, former MLA; and Darbari Lal, former minister. TNS

Bike stolen from hospital

Amritsar: A youth stole motorcycle of a local resident from parking outside New Life Hospital at Majitha Road on Friday evening. Satwant Singh, an employee of the hospital, said he had parked his motorcycle outside the hospital. Around 3.36 pm, a person came to the hospital and stole the bike, after covering his face. The crime has been recorded in CCTV cameras installed inside the hospital. The suspect opened the lock with a special key and fled from the spot within no time. The guard outside hospital noticed the activity and raised alarm, following which police was called. A CCTV footage of the incident has been handed over to the police. TNS

Chetan Yatra welcomed 

Tarn Taran: The 9th Masihi Chetan Yatra, which started from Amritsar under the leadership of Rt Rev Pardeep Kumar Samanta Rai, bishop, Diocese of Amritsar, reached here on Friday. It was extended a warm welcome by a large number of members of the community. Rt Rev Samanta Rai, while addressing a gathering at the local St Thomos School, recalled the preaching of Christ Jesus. The bishop said all prevailing ills such as crimes, drugs, hatred and corruption were the result of forgetting the teachings of the Christ. The bishop stressed on brotherhood, equality, justice regardless of caste, creed and religion. The Yatra covered Jaura, Ghriala, Khemkaran and other places in the district. TNS
