A team of experts from Central government visiting city will meet Mayor Bakshi Ram Arora and conservationists working on Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) in the city. Mayor and MC Commissioner Sonali Giri will be presenting the data acquired and prepared for various projects to be undertaken under HRIDAY Scheme at the meeting.

Addressing mediapersons here today, Mayor said the meeting was scheduled for today, but was deferred due to delay in the ongoing road repair work. He said, “We will be presenting the detailed project report (DPR) and tenders to be floated for restoration and heritage conservation, which is to be undertaken by the administration. The project cost is Rs 69 crore, which includes beautification and revival of heritage buildings,” said Arora.

The projects that will be covered under the phase include restoration work at Gobindgarh Fort, Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s Summer Palace at Ram Bagh and building recreational centres at several key areas.

“Five crores will be spent on beautification and conservation of Chalis Khuh, another Rs 2 to Rs 3 crore on developing and beautifying roads leading to the Golden Temple, for which work has already begun,” added the Mayor.

He said, “The money will be spent on bringing to life heritage buildings like Town Hall, former office of the Deputy Commissioner that was destroyed in fire. We will also build recreational centres in areas near the UBC canal.”
