The Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has decided to re-advertise the post of Punjabi assistant professor in the differently-abled category. The university will also call candidates with disability for all the subjects, once the current recruitments process ends.

The decision of the university comes in the wake of the recruitment row as a handicapped candidate appeared in the interview to fill the posts of permanent assistant professor along with others.

The university had advertised their recruitment process to fill in positions of permanent staff and on contractual basis for their various departments, regional campuses and constituted colleges. So far, around 20 appointments have been made for permanent posts, and 300 for the contractual positions, however, the proceedings had been questioned by some of the candidates.

An aspirant for the post of English assistant professor had alleged that less deserving candidate were being selected. The same was reitereated by a candidate aspiring for the position of assistant professor on permanent basis in the department of political science. Talking on the condition of anonymity, a candidate said, “The university has failed to give a clear picture of criteria and selection to the candidate.”

GNDU Registrar Karanjeet Singh Kahlon refuted such claims. He said, “No irregularities have taken place in the selection process. We have a multiple-level system to select a candidate. Everything has been videographed.”

“We have also decided to re-advertise the teaching post for disabled in the Punjabi department along with other departments once we are clear with the number of vacant seats as the recruitment process reaches its culmination. We are ready to go court and present all our details, if the need arises,” he added.
