Amritsar, December 12

The District Health Department has issued notices to two clinics for violation of the Drugs and Magical Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act.

The district unani and ayurveda officer, Dr Jugal Kishore, said the notices were issued to Dr Dilbag Clinic and Dr Bengali Clinic. A team led by Dr Kishore raided the premises of both the clinics near the bus stand and seized objectionable advertisements.

Dr Kishore said a communication had been sent to the Board of Ayurvedic and Unani Medicines of Punjab for further action. He said issuing advertisements that claim fast and immediate relief for physical problems to lure patients was illegal under the Drugs and Magical Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act.

The act of issuing objectionable advertisements to mislead people has been going on for a long time. However, it was for the first time that the department woke up to the problem and inspected a few clinics.

Senior officials of the board had recently announced that strict action would be taken against the doctors who issue such advertisements.

A visit to the area where both these clinics are located revealed that large bill boards claiming to provide treatment for infertility and other diseases were prominently displayed.

As a result of these misleading advertisements, a large number of gullible people fall a prey to these ‘doctors’. Instead of getting treatment, the condition of most of these patients worsens due to an unscientific approach.
