The jewellers at Guru Bazaar protested at Chaurasti Attari on Tuesday to demand the arrest of accused in the robbery case. However, they opened the market after 2 pm as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amrik Singh visited the demonstrators and assured them to arrest the accused soon. The market remained closed till 2 pm. The police officials announced to set up a police post in the Guru Bazzar and increase the PCR surveillance in the market.

Senior BJP leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chinna also visited the Guru Bazaar and criticised the Congress government and the city police. “The Congress government has failed to maintain the law and order in the state”, said Chhina.

Ashwani Kale Shah, area councillor and president of the Swarnkar Sangh, said, “DCP Amrik Singh came and assured that they would arrest the robbers soon. We have demanded foolproof security of the bazaar. He announced to set a police post and deploy the cops in the market.”

Representatives of the Sawrankar Sangh and other leaders of jewellers will meet Capt Amarinder Singh at Chandigarh on Wednesday. Cabinet Minister OP Soni and other Congress MLA from the city would accompany the jewellers.

“We are major revenue generator in the city. The gold market at Amritsar is the oldest in the region. It is the government’s core responsibility to provide safety and security to the bazaar. We will raise our demand in a meeting with the CM, said Kale Shah.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) Jagmohan Singh said, “We are about to break the case. It would take only one or two days”.
