Amritsar, March 23

Sahib Singh (55), a resident of Dhand village, was found dead in Partap Steel Mill Colony in the Chheharta area here today.

Though there was no external injury on his body, the police have registered a murder case against two persons including an unidentified woman in this regard.

Ravinderpal Singh, SHO, Chheharta police station, said a case under Section 302, IPC, has been registered against Pargat Singh alias Pagga of same village and an unknown woman following the preliminary probe and the statement of deceased’s wife. His autopsy report is awaited to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Lakhbir Kaur, the wife of the deceased, stated to the police that Sahib Singh runs a welding shop in the village and he often used to come to the city to bring iron material for welding. She said the deceased left from home at around 8 am. In the afternoon, she received a call that her husband was not well and when she reached there, he had already died.

It has been learnt that the suspect had tried to dump the body in the Partap Steel Mill colony on his motorcycle when the people saw him and got suspicious. Though they tried to catch Pargat Singh, he managed to flee. The police also found some ‘objectionable’ material from the deceased’s pocket.

SHO Ravinderpal said investigations were underway on different theories. He said raids were on to arrest the suspects which would shed light on the case.
