MC bypolls: 8 in fray

AMRITSAR: After scrutiny of nomination papers for bypolls of two Municipal Corporation wards, eight candidates are in the fray.

After scrutiny of nomination papers for bypolls of two Municipal Corporation wards, eight candidates are in the fray. As many as five persons had filed their nominations for ward number 50. Now, four candidates, including Rajbir Kaur of the Congress, Rajkumar Judo of the BJP and Vishal Joshi of Aam Aadmi Party are in the poll arena from ward number 50.

Four persons have filed papers from ward number 71. No nomination has been cancelled during scrutiny. The fight is mainly between Congress’ Gurmeet Kaur and Jinder of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Another candidate, Jaswant Kaur, is also in fray.

Tomorrow is the last day to withdraw candidature. The byelections are scheduled to held on June 21.

Meanwhile, candidates are busy trying to woo voters to franchise in their favour.
