Amritsar, May 23

Parents of schoolchildren have urged managements to ensure proper implementation of the safe school vahan policy of the administration.

Recently, the district administration ordered the seizure of overcrowded vehicles, especially auto-rickshaws. The administration has asked the school s to create awareness among parents that they should not send their children in overcrowded school transport .

Varun Khanna, president, Amritsar Parents Welfare Association, said, “I was traveling from Chabbal to Amritsar. I saw students being stuffed in a vehicle. There is a need that guidelines issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court should be implemented. It is dangerous for kids to travel in overcrowded school transport or auto-rickshaws.”

Another parent, Sandeep Kurl, said, “No vehicle should be overcrowded. All rules, regulations must be followed. Schools and teams of district officials should be held accountable for the poor transport.”

Anup Maini, a parent, said, “School managements, police and officials of the education department should be held responsible for any lapse in the transport system.” — TNS
