With the arrest of a Nihang Sikh, the city police today claimed to have solved the blind-murder case in which a 12-year-old migrant boy was found killed in the urinals of Raminder Singh Bolaria Park, also known as Sakatri Bagh, more than two months ago.

Mandeep Singh, the accused, had abducted the unidentified boy from the Galliara area by threatening him. He took the boy to the urinals of the park and had unnatural sex with him before strangling him to death. The victim was yet to be identified.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations) Jagmohan Singh said Mandeep Singh was arrested from Skatari Bagh area.

He said preliminary investigations had revealed that the accused had strangled the boy with a blue-coloured parna (a piece of cloth). This led to the suspicion that a Nihang Sikh could be behind the murder.

Therefore, the police contacted a number of Nihang organisations. During investigations, the police zeroed in on Mandeep Singh, who was expelled from a Nihang sect for similar reasons.

Civil Lines SHO Amrik Singh said the accused, a Bihar resident, was turned out from his home due to his activities. Mandeep Singh later came to Punjab and joined a Nihang sect.

Following this, a close vigil was kept near the Sakatari Bagh area. When the accused was seen near the park, he was arrested and during interrogation, he confessed to his crime. Mandeep told the police that the victim fell unconscious when he was subjected to unnatural sex. He (Mandeep Singh) got afraid and strangled the boy to death.
