AMRITSAR: As India proudly celebrates its 72nd Independence Day on August 15, educational institutes across the city welcomed the day with patriotic zeal and fervour.

As India proudly celebrates its 72nd Independence Day on August 15, educational institutes across the city welcomed the day with patriotic zeal and fervour.

A colourful Indian map depicting specialties and crops of various states was designed by the students of Delhi Public School. DAV Public School commemorated the day by asking students to address the masses from the perspective of the Indian flag.

The staff and students of Spring Dale Senior School walked into the premises bedecked with patriotic colours signifying the school’s desire for peace within the nation. Patriotic songs were played. Students of Grade I and II of the school performed gymnastics and choreography on patriotic songs.

Shri Ram Ashram Public School decorated its premises with the Tricolour and balloons. The students presented stage shows on the theme.

Suman Mahajan, Chairman, Bharat Vikas Parishad, was the chief guest at DAV International School. Students presented theme-based cultural programmes, decked up with patriotic songs, short plays and dances.

A total of 800 students of the Stalwarts World School organised an inter-house patriotic song competition. A fancy dress competition was also organised in the school. Tiny tots dressed up as freedom fighters danced on the tunes of patriotic songs.

The Pioneer School paid rich tribute to the great leaders, heroes of freedom struggle in a special event.

Students of The Senior Study II pledged to uphold the unity and integrity of our country. Various events including singing patriotic songs, dance performances, quiz contest and speeches on struggle for Independence were organised.

The students of Khalsa College of Education (KCE), GT Road, Khalsa College of Education, Ranjit Avenue and Khalsa College International Public School (KCIPS) celebrated 71 years of Independent India. The National Flag was also hoisted by respective principals in the presence of staff and students of these institutions.

Students at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) held at discussion on the governance for sustainable development, emphasising on the judicious use of resources by the present generation without compromising the need of the future generation.

Meanwhile, Sumit Makkar, SJM, Secretary, District legal services, celebrated the Independence day with the inmates of the Home for Special Children. The volunteer’s para legal cell told the children about the significance of the day and also gave them miniature tricolors.
