The CIA staff today claimed to have arrested the prime accused and the mastermind in the Rs 25 lakh robbery case in which the owner of a motor vehicle agency and his cashier were attacked and looted by unidentified armed persons on October 24 last year.
The accused was identified as Bikramjit Singh alias Tikka of Kot Atma Ram, located on Sultanwind road here. The police had already arrested four of his accomplices in the case, but he had been evading arrest till now. The accused reportedly confessed to his involvement in ten cases of snatching in Amritsar and Gurdaspur that had taken place in the last few months.
The police recovered a gold chain, Rs 5,000 in cash, a small axe and another sharp weapon, besides a motorcycle without a number plate from his possession.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajesh Kumar Kaplish said Tikka was already wanted in 13 criminal cases, including robberies.
Meanwhile, the city police have arrested three more snatchers, identified as Karandip Singh alias Peddu and Mintu Masih, both residents of 88-feet road and Suraj of Jagdambe Colony. The police confiscated a mobile phone, sharp weapons and some cash from their possession.
