Implementing their decision to boycott examination duties with effect from Wednesday, members of the GNDUTA have once again accused the authorities of Guru Nanak Dev University of dilly-dallying on their request regarding exemption from election duty. In a letter issued by GNDUTA president Davinder Singh and secretary Lakhwinder Singh, the latter stated that the response to their call of boycotting semester exams by the teachers had been overwhelming.

“Despite the fact that the proceedings of the general body meeting were submitted to the vice chancellor on the same day (April 25), university authorities did not initiate any action to get exemption for the teachers from election duty. It is only after the executive committee of GNDUTA held an emergency meeting with the vice chancellor on April 29 that the university submitted a list of teachers to the district electoral office for the same. It is unfortunate that the university authorities did not take timely action,” they said.

Lakhwinder Singh also said that the faculty had unanimously responded to the boycott call. A few teachers delivered their exam duty only because they were pressured by the university authorities, he said.

The GNDU has sent a list of teachers for exemption to the electoral office. The GNDUTA said every member of the faculty should be exempted from the election duty. The protesters said they wouuld continue to boycott examination duty.
