The district administration has transferred two health officials for not playing a supportive role in the ongoing ‘Tandrust Punjab’ mission. Identified as Rajni Rani and Jatinder Singh, both are Food Safety Officers.

Mission Director Kahan Singh Pannu said the mission was being carried out with missionary zeal and any government official reluctant to perform his or her duty would be seriously dealt with sternly.

Assuring compliance of the norms and support to ‘Tandarust Punjab’ mission, fruit traders met Deputy Commissioner and requested him to organise a formal ethical fruit ripening training for them.

Pannu said that widespread checking, sampling and prompt action on defaulters had yielded desired results. “The message is clear to one and all that no longer would the artificially ripened unsafe fruits be be permitted to be sold in markets,” said Pannu.

He said corrective action was the aim of government and it was indeed heartening to know that people were ready to support the mission.

“At the behest of traders, a programme has been chalked out to organise immediate training workshops at all the main mandis of the state and CDs of the lectures would be prepared and sent to the smaller mandis so that ways of ethical ripening be taught to merchants,” he said.

Experts from Punjab Horticulture Post Harvest Technology Centre have been roped in and they along with the respective District Mandi Officers will dispense the training, beginning from Amritsar wherein the initial demand has been raised.
