AMRITSAR: Estate officials conducted an anti-encroachment drive at Dhab Khatikan, Gate Hakiama, Bhagtan Wala Gate, Chitra Talkies and other areas in the walled city here on Thursday.

Amritsar, August 10

Estate officials conducted an anti-encroachment drive at Dhab Khatikan, Gate Hakiama, Bhagtan Wala Gate, Chitra Talkies and other areas in the walled city here on Thursday. Led by land Inspector Kewal Krishan, the team removed vends, advertisement boards and other temporary encroachments.

Estate officials said they had removed such encroachments a few days back, but vendors had again install their stalls. Encroachments in congested areas lead to heavy traffic jams, so commuters are at the receiving end.

Estate Officer Sushant Bhatia said, “We impose penalty on vendors who have installed vends in the congested areas. But if someone creates hurdle in the traffic movement, we seize his or her vend and goods.” — TNS
