Days after the mysterious death of a married woman, Rajwinder Kaur, the rural police have booked her NRI husband Gurlal Singh of Tarpai village and other members of her in-laws family for “murder”.

The case was registered on the complaint of victim’s mother Sarabjit Kaur, a resident of Tung Pai, on Batala road here.

Rajwinder was married to Gurlal Singh in 2007. A year later they shifted to Australia, said Sarabjit Kaur. She said due to some reasons a dispute arose between the couple which triggered frequent quarrel.

“Rajwinder returned home in November 2015 while Gurlal came in September this year. On October 2, Gurlal phoned the family to tell that Rajwinder was serious and admitted to a hospital. The family went to see her but came to know that Rajwinder had died and the accused had cremated her without their consent,” said her mother.

According to Sarabjit, she has now learnt that Gurlal had married another woman in Australia. She accused the in-laws family of murdering her as “they were not not providing the exact information how Rajwinder died.”

Besides Gurlal Singh, the police have booked his father Karnail Singh, mother Kulwant Kaur, brother Gurdev Singh and his wife Karamjit Kaur, all residents of Tarpai village. A case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC was registered against them at the Majitha police station.

Vijay Kumar, SHO, Majitha police station, said the matter was under investigations and nothing could be said at the moment. He said the case was registered after receiving the complaint from Sarabjit Kaur.
