Assn condemns custodial death of youth

BATHINDA: Members of the Association For Democratic Rights (AFDR) on Friday condemned the custodial death of Jaspal Singh of Faridkot.

Members of the Association For Democratic Rights (AFDR) on Friday condemned the custodial death of Jaspal Singh of Faridkot. They demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident so that the culprits could be brought to book.

Office-bearers of the AFDR, including district president Bagga Singh, general secretary Pritpal Singh and press secretary Dr Ajit Pal Singh, said Jaspal Singh was picked up without informing his parents and brought him to a police station in Faridkot. They said Jaspal was “brutally tortured”, resulting into his death in custody.

The office-bearers said instead of taking his parents into confidence, the police on their own disposed of the body, which was still untraceable.

They said the police violated all norms and regulations “probably with the consent” of senior officers.

They said it was tough to believe on police story as they termed it a “case of suicide”. AFDR representative said
