City remembers martyrs with devotion, patriotic fervour

Various functions were organised to observe the death anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev here today.

NGO Sahara Welfare Society

Sahara Welfare Society, an NGO, oragnised an event to observe the martyrdom day of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev at Bhagat Singh Chowk here.

Social activist Janak Raj Aggarwal presided over the event and paid tributes to the martyrs. Volunteers of the NGO tied yellow turbans at the function. Later they took out a rally, which passed from all major markets of the city, and ended at Bhagat Singh Chowk.

Malwa College

Malwa College organised a seminar to pay tributes to the martyrs on the occasion. Students and the staff of the college attended the seminar. Speaking on the occasion, principal NK Gosain spoke about the life and philosophy of Bhagat Singh and its relevance in the post-Independent India. He said Sardar Bhagat Singh and his associates were well-known freedom fighters who played a crucial role during the Indian freedom struggle.

Prof Jaspreet Singh of Central University, Dharamshala, Himachal Pardesh, was the key speaker on the occasion.

He threw light on the thoughts and its impact on the youth. He exhorted the students to follow the path shown by the great revolutionaries.

Guru Ram Dass Polytechnic College

Guru Ram Dass Polytechnic College organised a seminar to pay homage to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh on his martyrdom day. Students of the college shared their views about the martyrs. All heads of the departments, staff and students were present on the occasion.

Street play

Gurpreet Singh Maluka, chairman, Bathinda Zila Parishad, along with his supporters, paid tributes to the martyrs at Bhagat Singh Chowk in the city.

Maluka said the country could never forget the sacrifices made by the freedom fighter. He added that the community that forgot martyrs vanished very quickly. He said today the country was enjoying freedom due to the sacrifices made by the martyrs.

A medical camp was organised at Bhagat Singh Park in Pukhraj Colony in the morning. A march was taken out in the city in the evening. A street play on Bhagat Singh’s life was presented on the occasion.

Senior Deputy Mayor Tarsem Goyal paid tributes to the martyrs.

He said all citizens should work for the upliftment of the country following the path of the martyrs. He appreciated the role of the NGOs for helping the needy.

He further added that the motive to take out the rally was to connect the youth with the thinking of the martyrs as today they were deviating from the ideology of the martyrs.

Satpal Azad Memorial Public Library

The Satpal Azad Memorial Public Library also organised a function to mark the martyrdom day of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

Baba Farid College of Engineering & Technology

The Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology, Bathinda, organised an event to mark the death anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

On the occasion, speech and poem competitions were organised. Ritika bagged the first position in the speech competition,

Abhilash Mottan won the second prize and Navpreet Kaur got third position.

In the poem competition, Harwinder Singh bagged the first prize, Hareema bagged the second position and Manpreet stood third.
