Bathinda, December 8

Scores of candidates from the region appeared to take Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) exam, conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, in the city. Commuters have a harrowing experience as traffic snarls.

Many private as well as government schools in the city and in different blocks in the district were designated as examination centres where hundreds of candidates appeared in the exam. When the exam got over, Bathinda-Mansa highway, Bathinda-Barnala highway remained dotted with scores of vehicles for hours. The traffic cops were seen attempting to clear the traffic snarls but they could not help as the number of vehicles had clogged different city roads. Apart from that there was a huge rush of passengers at the city railway station as well.

“It’s more than one hour since we have been stuck in the traffic. We were going to get medicine for my 5-year-old daughter to the hospital. She was unwell since last night and when we were going to see a doctor, we got stuck in the traffic on the Bathinda-Barnala highway. It took us more than one and a half hours to reach the hospital. By the time her condition started deteriorating and she puked twice in the car,” said Gurpreet Singh, a commuter.

Another enraged commuter Vikramjit Kaul said, “Traffic wing of police and district administration could well have anticipated if they already knew that CTET exam would be conducted in the district on Sunday so that better arrangements could have been made to divert or streamline traffic on roads. This needs a serious thought as things become utterly bad on road when you have to wait inside your vehicle for hours.”
