The Senior State Powerlifting Championship concluded here amid emphatic performances by powerlifters from all across the state.

Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal and the Additional Deputy Commissioner (development) presided over the closing ceremony of the event on Sunday.

Badal announced Rs 5 lakh for the uplift of sports infrastructure for powerlifting in the city and Rs 1 lakh for the players.

He said that a stadium cum sports complex of international repute would be introduced in Bathinda soon where members of sports warriors society would be working to improve upon the stature of sports in the district by providing platform for the talented players by organizing sports events in regular intervals.

In 66kg weight category, Lovinder Singh of Patiala lifted 460 kg to claim first position and Sonny Saini of Kapurthala came second by lifting 335 kg.

In 74 kg weight category, Gagandeep Singh of Patiala lifted 515 kg to claim first place and Gautam of Sangrur lifted 470 kg to come second. In 83 kg weight category, Mohit Kumar of Patiala lifted 520 to win first position and Sohanpal Singh of Ludhiana came second by lifting 502 kg.

In 93 kg weight category, Davinder Singh of Barnala lifted 575 kg to claim first place and Pawan from Ludhiana lifted 545 kg to bag second position. The overall trophy of the championship was won by Bathinda district.
