Emergency health services to remain open on Diwali

BATHINDA: The district health authorities have decided to keep emergency services open at sub divisional hospitals (SDH) and community health centres (CHC) on Diwali since a large number of patients report at different hospitals with cracker injuries on that day.

Bathinda, October 18

The district health authorities have decided to keep emergency services open at sub divisional hospitals (SDH) and community health centres (CHC) on Diwali since a large number of patients report at different hospitals with cracker injuries on that day.

Besides, the department has also directed the doctors not to leave their stations on the festival night.  Civil Surgeon Hari Narayan Singh said, “Due to increase in burn cases over the years, we have deployed doctors at various CHCs and SDHs to tackle any emergency.” Besides, skin specialists, eye specialists and orthopaedic surgeons will remain in hospitals, he said.  The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered that firecrackers can be only burnt between 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm, he said.

Tips to celebrate a safe Diwali

  • Purchase firecrackers from a licensed shop.
  • Burst crackers in open spaces like playgrounds and fields.
  • While lighting the crackers, stand away from it.
  • Discard used fireworks in a bucket of water this way you can avoid people from stepping on to and hurting their feet from used fireworks which are thrown on the ground.
  • Keep buckets of water and blankets ready, in case a fire breaks out.
  • Wear thick cotton clothes while bursting crackers.
  • While igniting Diwali aerial fireworks like rockets ensure that they are not facing any opening like a window, door or an open building gate. If the rockets zoom into them, it may cause fire accidents.
  • Wear footwear while lighting Diwali fireworks.
  • Light only one firework at a time and one person should do it. Others should watch from a safe distance.
  • Park your vehicles in garage or at safe place.
