Barnala, August 13

Three persons, including two from Georgia, allegedly duped a farmer of Rs 10.62 lakh on the pretext of sending him to Georgia.

Complainant Parmjit Singh alleged that Parveen Kumar, a resident of Barnala, met him four months ago through some friends and promised to send him to Georgia. Parveen Kumar had claimed that his two relatives Parminder Kaur and her husband Amit Bhatia were settled in Georgia.

“Since I have no job here and only and one and half acres, I decided to move abroad. Four months ago, I deposited Rs 10.64 lakh in the bank account of Parminder Kaur and her husband Amit Bhatia, who are from Georgia. After getting money, they started giving excuses,” alleged Parmjit.

The Barnala (City) police have registered a case against Parveen Kumar, Parminder Kaur and Amit Bhatia under Section 420 of the IPC. Barnala-2 SHO Malkiat Singh said since the FIR had been registered after investigation, he would probe and take appropriate action. — TNS
