Bathinda: The Income Tax Department has decided to launch a crackdown on tax evaders in the district.



Bathinda: The Income Tax Department has decided to launch a crackdown on tax evaders in the district. A press release issued by the department stated that in their bid to avoid paying outstanding tax, a few firms have transferred their assets in different names.

The release further stated that the I-T Department served notices to five such firms in the district recently and the cases against owners of these firms would be followed up in courts. The tax recovery officer has also given instructions to arrest these tax defaulters. On February 13, acting tough, the I-T recovery officer concerned instructed to send a Rampura Phul-based defaulting tyre manufacturer for 30 days in prison. He was released from the jail after a day when the outstanding income tax of Rs 2,60,500 was paid. — TNS
