Vehicular movement affected

Movement of vehicles was affected due to rainfall in the city on Tuesday. Local buses were taken off roads.

However, rail and air traffic remained unaffected.

Parveen Kumar, General Manager (PRTC), Bathinda, said: “Local buses have been badly affected due to a flood-like situation in the city. All city buses have been taken off the roads after three to four vehicles were struck at various points. However, there was no affect on inter-city buses.”

Even private buses and auto rickshaws were seen moving at a snail’s pace within the city. Thereafter, there was excessive rush of passengers.

An Airports Authority of India official said the airport had a proper drainage system and there was no affect on flights due to heavy downpour.

Vinod Kumar, Public Relation Officer, Northern Railways, said, “The rail traffic was normal, except for a passenger train, which was affected due to slipping of soil in the yard section.”

Ramswaroop Meena, Station Superintendent, Bathinda railway station, said he had been asked not to speak mediapersons by the divisional authorities.
