PWD field workers stage stir outside civic body office

BATHINDA: Members of the local branch of the PWD Field and Workshop Workers’ Union today staged a protest outside the Municipal Corporation office here in favour of their demands.

Members of the local branch of the PWD Field and Workshop Workers’ Union today staged a protest outside the Municipal Corporation office here in favour of their demands. The protest was led by Babi Ram, branch president of the union, and Makhan Singh, chairman of the union.

While addressing the protesters, senior vice-president Raj Kumar and union member Gurdeep Singh said the issues of the field workers had not been resolved by the Municipal Corporation and the Sewerage Board due to which, the employees were facing many problems.

The members of the union said, “We have been raising our demands for the past six months. Our major demands are payment of uniform bills; CPF deduction should be sent to the head office on time; regularisation of services of ad hoc workers and outsourcing employees; and release of pending DA at the earliest.”

The members of the union have also threatened to intensify their protest in the coming days, if their demands were not met.

The members said they would continue their protest outside the office of the Sewerage Board’s Divisional Engineer till January 9.

Ranjit Rana, Mangu Ram, Gurpreet, Raj Beant Singh and Narinder, Prakash Singh, Sukhmander Singh Dhaliwal and Sukhamnder Singh Dhaliwal were also present during the protest.
