RO receives four complaints of poll code violation in a day

BATHINDA: A day after the Congress announced Harminder Singh Jassi as its candidate from the Maur constituency, political activities picked up pace in the constituency.

A day after the Congress announced Harminder Singh Jassi as its candidate from the Maur constituency, political activities picked up pace in the constituency.

The number of complaints received by the Returning Officer (RO) has also witnessed an upsurge.

As per the information shared by the Returning Officer-cum-SDM, Latif Ahmed, as many as four complaints, including distribution of free LPG cylinders and pension forms among residents, were received today.

A resident of Peerkot village filed a complaint with the RO in which the complainant stated that the village sarpanch was violating the code of conduct by distributing old-age and other pension forms among villagers.

“We immediately sent a flying squad to the village, but the squad didn’t find anything regarding the distribution of such forms,” said the RO.

A flying squad was also sent to Dade village from the RO received a complaint from Baldev Singh pertaining to the distribution of free LPG cylinders. “A flying squad was immediately sent to the village. It found that LPG cylinders were being distributed, but it was a routine process as the cylinders were being distributed among the registered LPG connection holders,” the RO added.

Bikker Singh of Khokhar village filed an online complaint in which he alleged that SAD workers torn some religious posters in the constituency. Taking action on the complaint, the RO wrote to the police department to look into the matter.

In the fourth complaint, SAD jathedar Harwinder Singh of Kotli village alleged that Aam Aadmi Party workers were defacing electricity and other government poles with their party flags. A flying squad was sent to the village on the complaint. Action on the complaint was pending till evening.
