As many as 10 students of Guru Kashi University have been shortlisted by the Luminous Company for its plants at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh.



As many as 10 students of Guru Kashi University have been shortlisted by the Luminous Company for its plants at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh. These students — Puttu Kumar Ram, Suraj Kumar Paswan, Akash Kumar, Shubham Kumar, Addityachandan Bharti, Sharvan Rajak, Navin Kumar, Girijesh Kumar, Abishek Kumar and Suraj Raj Singh — were shortlisted during a training-cum-placement drive. Dr Mehboob Singh Gill, director, Corporate Resource Cell, Guru Kashi University (GKU), said as many as 75 students from mechanical, electrical and electronics streams took part in the drive. He further added that Mahindra Tractors, Mohali, visited the campus and shortlisted seven girl students from computer science for its plant in Mohali. Chairman Gurlabh Singh Sidhu and managing director Sukhraj Singh Sidhu congratulated the shortlisted students. 

Extension lecture

The Department of Physics, DAV College, Bathinda, organised an extension lecture on the topic “Role of physics in medical field”. Dr Rajiv Dhawan, associate professor, Department of Radiotherapy, Government Medical College, Amritsar, delivered the lecture on the occasion. He threw light on various diagnostic techniques adopted by medical physicists in diagnosing different diseases. He also apprised student of the physics concepts, theories and methods to medicine or healthcare.  Dr Dhawan talked about various misappropriations like the reason for cancer is not only impurities in water but various other factors also.  On the occasion, Kuldeep Singh (BSc-II) was honoured for securing the first position in Punjab in the National Graduate Physics Examination conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers. 

Skill development programme

The University College of Agriculture , Guru Kashi University (GKU), is organising a programme on agricultural education, research and technology on the campus. Dr AS Sidhu, Dean College said recently, the college had started a skill development programme on silkworm rearing. The locally relevant insect rearing technology on mulberry leaves has been standardised and taught to final-year BSc (Agriculture) Hons students of the college. Entomology expert Dr Zora Singh Brar said the insect collected from Jammu and Kashmir was reared on mulberry leaves in wooden boxes by providing the required environment. — TNS
