MSc (Hons School), Chemistry, 1968 batch alumni (CHEM-68) met in the chemistry department, PU, today to celebrate their Golden Jubilee.
It was attended by most of the batchmates with their spouses, including Dr Krishan Kant Paul, Governor, Uttarakhand and Omita Paul, Secretary to the then President Pranab Mukherjee.
Prof SV Kessar, Prof Gurdev Singh and Prof DVS Jain, who taught the batch, were also present. The meeting started with lighting of the traditional lamp by women members of the batch, Omita Paul and Uma Joshi, followed by Saraswati Vandana.
Prof Alok Srivastava, chairman, Chemistry Department, in his opening remarks appreciated the efforts of the batch to remain in touch with each other and have regular get-togethers. A souvenir giving details of all members of CHEM-68 was released by the chairperson as president of Chemistry Department alumni.
The teachers were honoured with a memento.
Two of the batchmates, Dr Krishan Kant Paul and Omita Paul, were honoured for being extraordinary achievers of the batch.
Most of the members had retired as principals of educational institutions or high posts in various government and private organisations.
Cheques of three scholarships, instituted by CHEM-68, were handed over to the selected needy students of the department.
The alumnus reminisced about their bygone days as students of the department and how their lives changed post-university days.
