Amid high drama at DAV College, students exchange blows

CHANDIGARH: A high drama was witnessed at DAV College, Sector 10, when two groups of students having affiliation to different student parties entered into a fight during a protest against the college authorities for detaining around 250 students due to the short attendance.

A high drama was witnessed at DAV College, Sector 10, when two groups of students having affiliation to different student parties entered into a fight during a protest against the college authorities for detaining around 250 students due to the short attendance.

The protestors were raising slogans when the two groups entered into heated arguments and exchanged blows. Sources said nobody was seriously injured in the incident, but clothes of around 10 students were torn during the fight.

The police were informed about the incident, following which they reached the spot. Both groups submitted a complaint at the Sector 3 police station.

Inspector Sher Singh, SHO at the Sector 3 police station, said that a DDR (Daily Diary Report) has been lodged and an investigation has been initiated.

Sources said the college management had imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on around 500 students due to the attendance shortage. Due to this issue, students were protesting near the college’s administrative block. The college principal called the students to discuss the issue. In the meeting, student council president Vikas Dalal and students leaders of other groups were present. After the meeting, one section of students started raising slogans against the student council and students entered into fight and blows were exchanged between them.

College Principal BC Josan said to be able to take exams, students need 75 per cent attendance.
