Chandigarh, June 15

UT Administrator and Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore has asked the Transport Department to introduce electric buses in the city at the earliest.

The direction came during a review of the third meeting of the UT Administrator’s Advisory Council held at the UT Secretariat here.

As per the recommendations made by the transport committee, the present transport area in Sector 26 should be upgraded while a similar facility be set up near the grain market in Sector 39.

To ensure safety of those travelling in auto-rickshaws, the traffic wing has been advised to ensure 100 per cent verification of the drivers.

The UT Administrator said all departments should begin implementing the works in their respective areas and ensure proper coordination in case of matters involving more than two departments.

Badnore said the departments should share their progress reports with the related committees so that these could be analysed and processed further.
