Bag containing Rs 5 lakh stolen from Mountview

CHANDIGARH: Thieves struck at a wedding function at Hotel Mountview, Sector 10, and decamped with a bag containing "shagun" envelopes with around Rs 5 lakh in these on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

Thieves struck at a wedding function at Hotel Mountview, Sector 10, and decamped with a bag containing "shagun" envelopes with around Rs 5 lakh in these on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

According to the police, a call was received around 12.30 am that a bag containing shagun envelopes had been stolen from the wedding function.

A police team visited the spot where Dr CP Bansal, a resident of Sector 19 and retired Director, Health Services, UT, reported that during the function, he kept the bag somewhere, which was stolen. Police sources said two youths, aged around 25, were suspected to be involved in the theft.

Police officials said CCTV footage of the hotel had been obtained and efforts were being made to nab the thieves.

A case under Section 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 3 police station.
