Chandigarh: The Sessions Judge entrusted proceedings of the Akansh Sen murder case to Additional Session Judge today. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for August 22 when the charges may be decided against accused Harmehtab Singh. Sen, nephew of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh was run over by a BMW car by Harmehtab Singh and Balraj Randhawa in February. While Harmehtab was arrested, Randhawa is still absconding. The defence counsel had moved an application in court that the police had not submitted to the defence a CD containing footage of deceased Akansh, along with over 100 photographs. The CD and photographs were submitted to the court, along with the charge sheet but not to the defence counsel. TNS
Woman ends her life
Kalka: A married woman committed suicide in Pinjore on Friday . According to information, Poonam (24), wife of Somveer, a resident of Labour Colony in Rampur Seuri village, ended her life by hanging herself. She was alone at home. Somveer, husband of the deceased, came to know about the incident in the afternoon when he returned home and found the door of the room bolted from inside. He knocked at the door but did not get any response. After breaking open the door, he found his wife hanging. He informed the police, which sent the body to the Kalka CHC for a post-mortem. The woman is survived with two children. OC
Two bootleggers arrested
Lalru: The Lalru police on Thursday night arrested two bootleggers and seized 60 boxes of whisky. The accused have been indentified as Avtar Singh and Lijja Ram, both residents of Karnal. Pushpinder Singh, SHO, Lalru, said the police team had laid a naka on Chandigarh-Ambala highway near the ITI intersection, Lalru. A Mahindra Xylo, coming from the Chandigarh side, was signalled to stop. The SHO said the car driver tried to escape but was apprehended by the police. During the checking, the liquor was recovered. Bid to crush cops by miners
Panchkula: People engaged in illegal mining at Raipur Rani of Panchkula district attempted to crush two policemen under a tractor-trailer last evening. The Panchkula police have registered an FIR under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC against unknown persons for trying to run a tractor-trailer, used for illegal mining in Raipur Rani, over the two policemen. According to information, police constables Sanjeev Kumar and Balkar Singh were patrolling at Bhudd Mandlai village in Raipur Rani when they spotted two tractors-trailers carrying sand. They signalled them to stop. But instead of stopping their vehicle, the drivers of tractor-trailers started their vehicle. The policemen tried to stop them but the accused hit their motorcycle. The policemen had to jump from the bike to save their lives. TNS
Theft at mobile showroom
Kharar: Mobile phones were stolen from a showroom from Gulmohar Market in Desu Majra village on the Kharar Mohali road last night. According to Gagandeep Singh, owner of the showroom, he was informed about broken shutters of the showroom in the morning by a hawker. He said the thieves took away with them CCTV cameras and the DVR. He said all costly mobile phones had been stolen and he suffered a loss to the tune of Rs 7 to 8 lakh. He informed the police about the theft and the police have started the investigation. OC
PO arrested
Kharar: Amrit Pannu, who was declared a proclaimed offender (PO) by a Kharar Court earlier was arrested by the police. He was declared a PO in a cheque-bounce case. While giving this information, Head Constable Balwinder singh said he was produced in the local court from where he had been remanded in judicial custody. OC
