Boy goes missing from Snehalaya, returns

CHANDIGARH:A 10-year-old boy, an inmate of Snehalaya, a shelter home for destitute and abandoned children in Maloya, went missing on the intervening night of October 17 and 18.

Chandigarh, October 19

A 10-year-old boy, an inmate of Snehalaya, a shelter home for destitute and abandoned children in Maloya, went missing on the intervening night of October 17 and 18. The inmate, who had left on his own, later returned to the shelter home.

According to the police, Monica Sharma, a warden at Snehalaya, had reported that the inmate had gone missing from Snehalaya. The police registered a kidnapping case at the Maloya police station.

Police sources said the inmate managed to flee from the shelter home after giving the security the slip. “The inmate went at night and returned in the morning,” said a police official. This is not the first time that a child went missing from Snehalaya. In the past, similar incidents have been reported. Over 10 such cases have been reported in the past few years.
