Chandigarh, August 4

Hundreds of residents from all sectors of Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) dwelling units gathered in a park in Sector 56 Chandigarh and raised their demand for one-time settlement of need-based changes made within their plot-area within story-line of their dwelling units.

Residents of Sector 56, Dhanas, Maulijagran, Ram darbar, etc, have incidental spaces adjoining their dwelling units on which they have carried out construction either for making kitchen or toilets, which were not provided to them at the time of allotment of dwelling units as there were flaws in the design of housing board.

The residents have been demanding regularisation of these constructions for which they are ready to pay nominal compounding fees.

Rajat Malhotra, chairman, Chandigarh Housing Board Residents Welfare Federation said that all the members of the association opposed the policy for imposing the penalty for the violations.

He said the residents had been demanding for the regularisation of need-based changes in their flats within plot area and within storey line as one time settlement on the pattern of Delhi. They also observed hunger strike at many places. He said the penalty would not end the harassment but would create more problems to the residents.
