The Kharar Sadar police have registered a case under Sections 420 and 406, IPC, against Ravi Garg, a Chandigarh-based builder, on the charge of committing a fraud of Rs 1.30 crore with a Mohali resident.

In his complaint, Nitan Kalra, a Mohali resident, stated to the police that he came into contact with Ravi Garg in 2017. The accused told him that 100 flats were to be constructed at one of his ongoing projects at Santimajra Colony. He said the project would be approved by the authorities concerned within three months.

The accused told Kalra that he wanted to sell the project. The victim settled the project deal with the accused at the rate of Rs 14,000 per yard. On August 19, 2017, he took possession of the project after paying Rs 80 lakh to the accused.

After this, the complainant started constructing flats on the project site. Later, Kalra discovered that the department concerned had not given permission to construct flats at the project in Santimajra Colony.

The victim told the police that by the time he came to know about the pending permission, he had already spent Rs 50 lakh on the construction of flats.

He alleged that the accused failed to refund this amount. The police have started investigation in the case.
