Duo who robbed auto-rickshaw held

CHANDIGARH: Two robbers have been arrested by the crime branch of the UT police for robbing an auto-rickshaw driver of his vehicle besides Rs 700, a mobile phone and documents.

Two robbers have been arrested by the crime branch of the UT police for robbing an auto-rickshaw driver of his vehicle besides Rs 700, a mobile phone and documents.

According to the police, the victim, Manoj Kumar, was returning home on the intervening night of October 11 and 12 when two miscreants stopped him near the Transport light point and hired the auto for Mullanpur.

On reaching the Sarangpur light point, the two passengers put a rope around the auto driver’s neck and started thrashing him. The miscreants then robbed the victim of his auto, cash and valuables.

A case was registered at the Sarangpur police station.

The police said acting on a secret information, the suspects, identified as Pankaj Tiwari (21) and Rakesh Kumar (19), both residents of Daria village, were arrested at Sector 28.

They were produced in a court, which sent them to two-day police remand.
