Residents file complaint with DC

PATIALA:Irked over illegal encroachments on the cremation ground allotted by the administration to Dheeru Nagar, residents lodged a complaint with the DC.

Patiala, October 9

Irked over illegal encroachments on the cremation ground allotted by the administration to Dheeru Nagar, residents lodged a complaint with the DC. They demanded that showrooms constructed on the land meant for the cremation ground on the Sular road should be demolished.

A politically backed self-styled chairman of an organisation has allegedly raised showrooms in connivance with certain political leaders on the land of the cremation ground spread over around 44 bighas of land. The complainant also alleged irregularities by the previous management of the cremation ground committee.

The residents claimed that despite initial complaints to the officials concerned, the illegal construction did not stop on the government property, which is worth crores. The residents claimed that the land mafia might have prepared forged documents of the common land with the help of some administrative officials and had also raised several showrooms and shops on the prime land.

Prem Khora, a resident of Dheeru Nagar, said, “Miscreants are running several businesses from the government land which was allotted as cremation ground for the residents of our locality.” — OC
