Expert to MBA students: Dream big, formulate success strategy

CHANDIGARH:The University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS), Panjab University, which offers sectoral MBA programmes, organised an orientation for 2018-20 batch students.

The University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS), Panjab University, which offers sectoral MBA programmes, organised an orientation for 2018-20 batch students.

On this occasion, the alumni of the UIAMS shared their thoughts through their video messages for freshers. This was followed by an investiture where the departmental ties/scarves were presented to the students by the UIAMS faculty.

Dinesh Dua, CEO, Nectar Lifesciences, encouraged the students to dream big and then chart their plan for success. He also shared the examples of successful entrepreneurs and business leaders. 

This was followed by a talk by Satinder S Ahuja, National Head, Rural Finance, HDFC Limited, who shared tips on resume writing. He highlighted the role of statistics and data in managerial decision making. He stressed on the importance of summer internship as a way of gaining first-hand industry knowledge as well as creating an impression on prospective employers to create opportunities such as pre-placement offers.

Upasna Joshi Sethi, UIAMS Director, highlighted the importance of good organisations and how they were bound by a common purpose. Prof Nishtha Jaswal, Dean University Instruction, Panjab University, highlighted the importance of moral values in professional and personal life. 

Training programme held

The World Bank TEQIP-III project implementing unit NPIU, Delhi, organised two-day training programme on ‘Financial Management and PFMS’ at the University Institute of Engineering & Technology. NS Agnihotri and Prateek Kandulna, officials of the NPIU, were welcomed by Prof Sukhwinder Singh, Coordinator TEQIP-III (UIET).

Prof Savita Gupta, Director, UIET emphasised on the need to follow World Bank guidelines for the utilisation of funds in a judicial and transparent manner. Delegates from 28 participating institutions from Chandigarh , Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand took part in the event. The participants were apprised of the financial management and PFMS as per the World Bank guidelines.
